Bhubaneswar, August 21: The flooding situation in Odisha remains critical. Many areas of the state are still submerged, affecting hundreds of villages and millions of people. The state government is closely monitoring the situation and continues relief, rescue, and restoration efforts.
According to the latest report from the State Emergency Operation Center, seven districts are the most affected by the floods. These include Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, Kendrapara, and Sundargarh.
The Special Relief Commissioner’s office reports that 1,344,698 people living in 76 blocks, 505 gram panchayats, 1,703 villages, and 12 urban local bodies in these seven districts are impacted by the ongoing flood situation.
The state government noted that the situation has been particularly challenging in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Kendujhar districts over the past few days. However, current reports indicate that water levels in major rivers are decreasing and are now below danger levels.
So far, officials have relocated 487,350 people to safer locations, housing them in 880 relief camps. The government continues to provide relief and rehabilitation efforts, with 24-hour monitoring through the State Emergency Operation Center and district-level emergency operation centers.
Free kitchens are still operational in the affected areas, providing cooked meals to 495,833 individuals. Dry rations and other relief materials are also being distributed as needed. To date, 4,765 polyethylene sheets/rolls have been provided to affected families.
To enhance rescue and emergency relief operations, 126 relief and rescue teams have been deployed. This includes 32 ODRAF teams, 8 NDRF teams, 46 fire and emergency service teams, and 40 police/civil defense/local teams. Additional resources are available if required. These teams are actively reaching out to affected individuals to provide assistance.
Rescue teams have reached 492 cut-off villages and conducted 124 emergency medical evacuations. A total of 210 boats and specialized equipment have been deployed for relief and rescue operations. The state government has prioritized health services in the affected areas.
So far, 93 medical teams have been deployed, and 159 medical camps have been established, providing medical assistance to 11,549 individuals. Special attention is being given to pregnant women, with 150 women transferred to health institutions and 44 safe institutional deliveries conducted.
The state government has confirmed that there is an adequate stock of essential medicines, anti-snake venom, ORS, and IV fluids. There have been no reports of any disease outbreaks so far.
