Young Passenger Stabbed to Death in Mumbai Local Train During Argument

Mumbai, June 24: A 22-year-old passenger was fatally stabbed during an argument over keeping the coach door open in a first-class compartment of the Churchgate-Nalasopara fast local train amidst heavy rainfall. Police reported the incident on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Mayank Lohar from Virar, was traveling in the first-class coach of train number 90663 when the incident occurred between Andheri and Borivali stations. Lohar worked as a salesman for a private company in Andheri and was returning home from work at the time.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the train departed from Churchgate at 10:05 PM, with Lohar and the accused both in the same first-class coach. Due to the heavy rain in the city, Lohar requested the accused to close the coach door. This request reportedly led to a heated argument between the two passengers.

During the altercation, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen, causing severe injuries.

The train arrived at Borivali station on platform number 6 at 11:04 PM. Police reported that before the train came to a complete stop, the accused jumped off the moving train and fled the station premises.

Western Railway stated that their emergency response system was activated immediately upon learning of the incident. Within three minutes of the train’s arrival, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and GRP reached the coach to assist the injured passenger.

A stretcher, porter, and medical team were dispatched to the compartment. Lohar was extricated from the coach and taken to the emergency medical room at Borivali station at 11:22 PM, where doctors examined him. Following medical advice, he was transported by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, accompanied by GRP and RPF personnel. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The Borivali GRP has registered a murder case and initiated a search for the accused. Police have formed several teams to identify and apprehend the suspect. Investigating officers are reviewing CCTV footage from railway stations and gathering information from passengers who may have witnessed the attack.

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
