Kolkata, August 28: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated on Friday that both the Communists and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have fostered anti-national sentiment at Jadavpur University (JU), which is regarded as a center of excellence.
He remarked, “Initially, the Communists ruled West Bengal for 34 years, creating an environment against nationalist programs on the JU campus, leading to the emergence of anti-national thinking. Subsequently, an Islam-supporting force governed the state, with the sole agenda of establishing Urdu as the second official language in West Bengal. Both have contributed to the rise of anti-national sentiment in the state.”
Adhikari made these comments during a Raksha Bandhan event, where 10,000 people sang the complete ‘Vande Mataram’ song.
He also referenced the slogans of ‘Azadi’ being raised on the JU campus. The Chief Minister questioned, “What kind of freedom do you seek? Do you want the freedom to consume drugs on the university campus? When soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces sacrifice their lives fighting terrorists, these groups do not organize protest marches. Yet, after ‘Operation Sindoor,’ these same groups march for peace.”
The Chief Minister issued a stern warning to those chanting slogans for ‘Kashmir Maange Azadi.’ He stated, “Do not forget that through ‘Operation Sindoor,’ the Indian Armed Forces eliminated almost the entire family of Masood Azhar. Similarly, our forces will soon take control of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.”
He also mentioned that just as anti-national forces were expelled from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and Osmania University in Hyderabad, similar actions will be taken at JU. A nationalist wave has emerged in West Bengal, and JU will be freed from such anti-national elements.
Adhikari cautioned those writing slogans in support of the deceased Maoist leader Koteswar Rao, alias Kishanji. He said, “The walls of Jadavpur University bear the inscription ‘Red Salute Kishanji.’ Who is Kishanji? He was a person who did not believe in the Indian Constitution. He was determined to rid the JU campus of two problems. I will ensure that JU alumni do not retain occupancy in the hostel after graduation. Furthermore, I will guarantee that drug use within the JU campus is completely eradicated.”
