Pune, June 24: Pune police claim to have cracked the Ketan murder case. Officials revealed that crucial clues from CCTV footage led them to a suspect wearing a hoodie in 33-degree heat. Additionally, 2,004 phone calls between Chetan Babulal Chaudhary and Siya Goyal linked them to the murder.
Initially, Ketan Agarwal’s death was reported as an accidental fall during a trek near the historic Lohagad Fort on June 18. However, as the police delved deeper, they uncovered a chilling conspiracy behind the incident.
According to NDTV, CCTV footage showed Ketan walking with his fiancée, Siya Goyal, while a man in shorts and a hoodie trailed them at a distance of about 20 to 30 feet. The man had his face covered with a hood and was wearing a headset.
Another CCTV clip intensified police suspicion. In this footage, Siya suddenly turned to look at the hooded man, who then sat down, seemingly trying to avoid drawing attention.
The decision to wear a hoodie in such heat raised red flags for the police. At the time, temperatures in the area were around 33 degrees Celsius. Wearing a hoodie during a trek in such weather seemed odd, prompting authorities to investigate the man’s identity closely.
Officials stated that technical evidence and digital analysis soon revealed a deep connection between Siya and the hooded man. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Chetan Babulal Chaudhary. The investigation team compared Chetan’s social media profile pictures with the CCTV images and found significant similarities.
The police also grew suspicious of Siya’s behavior following Ketan’s death. Reports indicated that she did not appear to mourn Ketan’s passing, raising doubts about the accident theory. As the investigation progressed, Ketan’s uncle informed the police that Siya had previously expressed hesitation about marriage, even asking if it could be postponed for a year.
Subsequently, police examined call records and discovered extensive communication between Siya and Chetan. They had exchanged 2,004 phone calls and spent nearly 238 hours talking over the past seven months.
Ketan, the son of a prominent businessman in Maharashtra, had gotten engaged to Siya in February. Their families were preparing for an extravagant wedding in November, rumored to include a private jet and palace venues. However, the investigation team asserted that while these preparations were underway, Siya was already in contact with Chetan. They had met at a business event in 2025, where Siya was involved in a bakery business, and Chetan was linked to the dry fruits trade.
According to police, Chetan viewed Ketan as an obstacle in his relationship with Siya. Together, they plotted to eliminate him. Allegedly, Siya lured Ketan to Lohagad Fort under the pretense of a casual outing. Chetan was later summoned to the location, where they pushed Ketan into a deep ravine, resulting in his death.
The investigation also uncovered previous attempts to harm Ketan. Days before the murder, Ketan and Siya had planned a pre-wedding photoshoot trip to Bali. However, the trip was canceled when Ketan’s passport went missing at Mumbai Airport. His father later accused Siya of deliberately hiding the document to sabotage the trip.
The investigation team also claimed that Siya attempted to kill Ketan on June 14 at Lohagad Fort. Police reported that she tried to push him off a cliff, but he managed to grab onto a bush to save himself. To deflect suspicion, Siya screamed about seeing a snake and embraced him, feigning concern for his safety.
Authorities stated that when that attempt failed, Siya and Chetan proceeded with their plan on June 18. The investigation team also discovered references to a ‘Plan C’ that they intended to execute if their earlier attempts were unsuccessful.
Currently, both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested. They face charges of murder and criminal conspiracy and have been remanded to police custody for seven days as the investigation continues.
