Munger, June 24: A tragic incident occurred at the Ganga ghat in the Vasudevpur police station area of Munger district, Bihar, on Wednesday. Five girls, who had gone for a bath in the Ganga, suddenly found themselves in deep water and were swept away by the strong current. Panic ensued in the area following the incident. Authorities have recovered the body of one girl, while search operations are ongoing for the other four.
According to reports, the girls, who are daughters of local residents Kranti Paswan and Chamkalal Paswan, had gone to the Shyampur ghat for bathing. During their swim, they unexpectedly drifted into deeper waters. Bystanders attempted to rescue them, but the swift current made it impossible to succeed. The news of the incident spread quickly, causing chaos at the ghat.
A large number of villagers gathered at the scene, and the families of the missing girls were inconsolable. Upon receiving the information, local police arrived promptly and initiated rescue operations. The police administration dispatched teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and district divers to the site. Intensive search efforts are underway in the Ganga for the missing girls.
According to police officials, the body of one girl has been recovered from the river, while search efforts for the other four continue. The missing girls include Kranti Paswan’s daughters, Sangita Kumari (18), Binita Kumari (16), Sandhya Kumari (14), and Sonam Kumari (12). Additionally, there are concerns for Hina Kumari (19), daughter of Chamkalal Paswan, who is also feared to have drowned. The disappearance of four sisters from the same family has cast a pall of grief over the entire area.
Administrative officials stated that rescue teams are diligently searching the river, making every possible effort to locate the missing girls. The village is engulfed in mourning, with many people remaining at the Ganga ghat. The police are closely monitoring the situation.
