Bahraich, August 31: In light of the recent devastating natural disaster in Nepal, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed profound condolences to the affected families in both Nepal and India. He emphasized that Nepal is not just a political ally of India but also an integral part of their shared cultural heritage. Adityanath referred to the inauguration of the Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail line as a significant step towards enhancing border security and promoting prosperity and development in the region. The recent catastrophic floods in Nepal have resulted in substantial loss of life, and rescue and relief operations are currently underway.
CM Yogi extended his sympathies to the families in Nepal who have lost loved ones, as well as to those in India affected by this disaster. He stated that Nepal is more than a friendly nation; it shares a cultural legacy with India that spans thousands of years. From Lord Pashupatinath to Kashi Vishwanath, and from Gorakhpur to Janakpur, there are deep connections of faith, culture, and tradition between the two countries. People from both nations honor this shared heritage by visiting each other’s religious and cultural sites.
He also highlighted the historical significance of Bahraich, mentioning Maharaja Suheldev, who, nearly a thousand years ago, defeated the foreign invader Salar Masood on this very land, safeguarding India from foreign rule. Adityanath remarked on the irony that, even decades after independence, such a great warrior was forgotten while events were held in honor of the invader who sought to humiliate India.
The Chief Minister noted that circumstances have changed. No events are now held in the name of foreign invaders; instead, a grand memorial dedicated to Maharaja Suheldev’s valor and victories has been constructed. He described the Nepalganj Road-Nanpara-Bahraich rail connectivity as a transformative initiative for the region. The first train from Rupaidiah to Varanasi will connect the border area to Kashi, boosting religious tourism.
With the new rail connectivity, travel from Nepalganj Road to Bahraich, Gonda, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi will become easier, fostering trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges in the border area. Adityanath emphasized that this connectivity is crucial not only for border security but also for unlocking the region’s prosperity and development potential.
He mentioned that the new rail line would create endless opportunities for growth, including the establishment of industries, increased trade, and advancements in tourism and agriculture. The connectivity will also enhance the eco-tourism potential of the Katarniaghat area near Bahraich, making it easier for tourists from other parts of the country to access this natural tourism hub.
In his address, CM Yogi also referenced the encephalitis epidemic that once plagued eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Terai region. He accused previous governments of downplaying the issue as an “unknown disease,” which led to the deaths of innocent children. He stated that the current government has faced the problem head-on, identifying its causes and committing to its eradication.
Yogi highlighted the significant changes in health and development in the area, which once suffered from encephalitis outbreaks. The newly initiated rail service from Nepalganj Road to Varanasi is not merely a new line or train service; it symbolizes a connection between the border area and the cultural capital of the country, strengthening India-Nepal historical ties and opening new avenues for development in Bahraich and the entire Terai region.
