Aden, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : Heavy fighting in western Yemen has led to the deaths of at least 90 individuals over the past two days, as clashes intensify between government forces and Houthi rebels. Medical officials reported that since Thursday, 40 government soldiers and 50 Houthi fighters have lost their lives.
The conflict escalated early Friday when Houthis launched a large-scale assault in the coastal region of Hodeidah, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 government troops. Meanwhile, in the neighboring Taiz province, ongoing skirmishes since Thursday have claimed the lives of 26 soldiers.
Military sources indicate that both sides have deployed additional troops, armored vehicles, and heavy military equipment to the front lines, further intensifying the fighting. This surge in violence is considered one of the most severe ground confrontations in western Yemen in recent years, raising concerns about a potential return to widespread conflict in areas that had remained relatively calm.
Earlier in the week, Yemen’s government forces claimed to have intercepted four explosive boats headed toward the government-controlled Hanish and Zuker islands near the international shipping lanes of the Red Sea.
In recent weeks, fighting has escalated across multiple fronts in Yemen. Government forces have been conducting drone and artillery strikes on Houthi positions, while the Houthi group has retaliated with missile and drone attacks on government-controlled areas in Marib and along the western Red Sea coast.
