New Delhi, July 15: Eknath Shinde, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a leader of the Shiv Sena, expressed confidence on Wednesday that the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bill will be passed in the upcoming monsoon session.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Shinde noted that the population of Lok Sabha constituencies has surged to approximately 2 to 2.5 million.
He emphasized that managing development projects in such large constituencies has become exceedingly challenging. Therefore, delimitation is essential to ensure justice for the general public.
Shinde was accompanied by MPs Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Bhau Saheb Wakchaure, Omraje Nimbalkar, and Nagesh Patil Ashtikar.
Focusing on the Women’s Reservation Bill, Shinde praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking decisive action on a matter that had previously been the subject of endless discussions.
He stated that Prime Minister Modi showed the courage to introduce this bill. Unfortunately, it did not pass in the last session due to opposition resistance, which cost them dearly in the West Bengal elections. If the opposition now shows some wisdom and foresight, it would be a positive sign. He urged all opposition parties to unite in support of this bill to ensure justice for women.
Shinde also shared details of a productive meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding significant development projects in Maharashtra. The discussions included irrigation challenges in various constituencies, the Marathwada irrigation project, railway and road infrastructure development, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and urban and rural development plans, including the ‘Developed India’ initiative.
He further mentioned that Home Minister Amit Shah assured that these proposals would be presented in the upcoming Cabinet meeting. Additionally, the responsibility of coordinating with all MPs has been assigned to MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde.
When asked about the Shiv Sena faction, Eknath Shinde stated that all legal formalities concerning the MPs joining with a two-thirds majority have been completed. He asserted that in democracy, the majority is paramount, and they trust that the Speaker will make the right decision.
Praising the Modi government’s performance, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde highlighted that 80 million citizens are receiving free grains and 30 million people have been lifted above the poverty line. He mentioned the financial assistance received by Maharashtra, stating that the Modi government has allocated ₹12 trillion to the state, compared to only ₹2 trillion during the ten years of the UPA government. He intensified his attack on the opposition, asserting that the Modi government’s motto is ‘Nation First,’ while the opposition operates on a ‘Corruption First’ policy.
