Ranchi, July 15: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed his dissatisfaction over delays in the state’s road, flyover, and bridge projects. He has instructed officials to complete pending tasks in a timely manner. Major construction projects must be finished within the next two months, or departmental action will be taken against the responsible officials and agencies.
During a high-level review meeting of the Road Construction Department at the Jharkhand Secretariat on Wednesday, CM Soren assessed the progress of plans from the last five years, as well as ongoing and completed projects. Departmental officials updated the Chief Minister on the status of road, flyover, overbridge, and bridge-related projects. Soren mandated the creation of an updated database for all projects, along with mandatory geo-tagging.
He emphasized that clear records of each project’s cost, progress, and timelines must be maintained to ensure monitoring and accountability. He believes that geo-tagging will enhance transparency in construction work and enable effective project monitoring.
In the review meeting, the Chief Minister also expressed concern over the poor condition of roads, potholes, waterlogging, and irregularities in construction work. He noted that complaints regarding these issues have been consistently received through social media, print, and electronic media. Officials were directed to promptly address these complaints and maintain an updated record of actions taken.
CM Soren stressed the importance of road safety during the monsoon season, instructing for the repair of potholes, improvement of drainage systems, and enhancement of road quality. He also urged for expedited plans to widen and strengthen narrow roads to ensure safer and smoother traffic flow. He prioritized the completion of long-pending road and bridge projects in the capital, Ranchi, and other parts of the state. The meeting also reviewed new projects, including solar cycle tracks.
He insisted on strengthening the edges of bridges, ensuring proper drainage systems, and strictly adhering to quality standards in all construction work. Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Secretary of the Road Construction Department Sunil Kumar, Chief Engineer Praveen Jayant Bhengra, and other senior officials from the department.
