Kolkata, July 11: West Bengal police have apprehended all five main suspects involved in the murder of Indrajit Tanti, which occurred on July 5 in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. This incident followed the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in the area.
Authorities reported that three individuals, believed to be the conspirators in Indrajit Tanti’s murder, were arrested during an overnight operation early Saturday. Prior to this, two others had already been taken into custody for their roles in the conspiracy.
Police sources have refrained from disclosing the identities of the three suspects arrested on Saturday morning. They will be presented in the district court of South 24 Parganas, where prosecutors will seek their police custody.
The body of the minor girl was discovered in a local pond on the morning of July 5. This led to widespread violence and unrest in the area that same afternoon. An unruly mob brutally killed Indrajit Tanti, suspecting him of involvement in the girl’s rape and murder.
In response to the incident, police registered three separate FIRs. The first pertains to the crime against the minor girl, the second relates to Indrajit Tanti’s murder, and the third addresses the extensive violence and vandalism that occurred during the protests.
Currently, police are working to identify the conspirators who wrongfully implicated Tanti in the crime against the minor.
In connection with the rape and murder of the minor, police have arrested four individuals. One of the suspects was killed during a police encounter, with claims that he attempted to escape custody and seized a weapon from an accompanying officer, prompting the police to take lethal action.
