Assams Chief Minister Ensures Financial Constraints Wont Hinder Higher Education

Guwahati, August 25: Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that his government is committed to ensuring that financial difficulties do not prevent any youth from pursuing higher education. He highlighted key state initiatives aimed at helping students achieve their dreams.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister reassured parents in Assam that they should not worry about the costs of their children’s higher education. He stated, “No parent in Assam should be concerned about bearing the expenses of their child’s higher education. The Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes are ensuring that boys and girls do not compromise their dreams due to financial hardships.”

The Assam government launched the Chief Minister’s Nijut Moina Asoni scheme to encourage girls to continue their education and reduce dropout rates. Under this initiative, eligible female students pursuing higher secondary and higher education receive financial assistance. The government later expanded this scheme to support girls at various educational levels, aiming to increase their participation in higher education.

Similarly, the Nijut Babu Asoni scheme was introduced to provide financial aid to male students from economically weaker families. Eligible students enrolled in the first year of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at government and provincialized institutions receive direct benefit transfers as financial support.

According to state government guidelines, the Nijut Babu scheme aims to increase enrollment among economically disadvantaged students, reduce dropout rates at the entry level of higher education, and improve Assam’s gross enrollment ratio. This initiative also promotes gender balance in educational assistance and ensures that no student has to abandon their studies due to financial constraints.

Both schemes are part of the Assam government’s broader effort to encourage more students to continue their education beyond school. The higher education department has also issued new guidelines for the 2026 academic session for both the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing financial assistance to students.
