Mumbai, August 25: A significant crackdown on food safety has taken place in Mumbai. The Maharashtra FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has suspended the licenses of five restaurants operating within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) premises. These establishments have been accused of serious violations of food safety and cleanliness regulations.
According to an FDA press release, this action targets the Permit Room, Pavilion, Mediterranean, Oriental Swing, and Clubway and Pastry Counter located at the MCA.
During inspections, multiple breaches of food safety regulations were discovered at these locations. Officials reported a severe lack of cleanliness in the restaurants and improper food handling and storage practices.
Inspectors found spoiled raw food, unsanitary kitchen conditions, and significant discrepancies in freezing temperature controls. Many establishments failed to maintain food items at the required temperatures, posing a risk of spoilage.
The FDA has also released videos and photographs documenting the poor conditions in the kitchens and the violations observed.
Additionally, the FDA suspended the license of the ‘Sankalp Mahila Industrial Producer Cooperative Society Limited’ in Kurla, which operated a mid-day meal canteen. Inspectors noted poor cleanliness and housekeeping conditions, leading to the suspension of their license due to multiple structural and hygiene deficiencies.
Furthermore, the license of the well-known ‘Cafe Cadell’ in Dadar has also been suspended. This cafe faced accusations of violations related to ventilation, pest control, and food equipment standards. Officials found deficiencies in the water testing records, which are crucial for food safety.
FDA officials stated that these actions were taken during routine inspections and that such inspections will continue. The department emphasized that there will be no compromise on food quality and cleanliness, and strict actions will be enforced against those who violate regulations.
