Kolkata, June 15: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on Monday that the state government will ensure that welfare schemes benefit only the rightful and eligible individuals. This statement was made during the inauguration of a ‘Jan Kalyan Camp’ in Nandigram, East Midnapore district.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to participate in these camps to avail themselves of various government schemes, emphasizing that funds should not be misappropriated by ineligible individuals. He accused the previous government of significant irregularities in the ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme.
Adhikari revealed that Jan Kalyan Camps have been set up at 1,100 locations across the state, where beneficiaries can access 54 essential government schemes. He criticized the former Mamata Banerjee administration, stating that funds often did not reach the intended recipients. Instances of deceased individuals, non-Indian citizens, and even men receiving benefits from the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme were highlighted. In the Domkal block of Murshidabad district alone, 3,500 fraudulent accounts were discovered, indicating widespread corruption in all departments under the previous government.
The Chief Minister explained that information is being collected from beneficiaries to verify their identity and eligibility. “We aim to create a clear and accurate list of beneficiaries. We do not want infiltrators to benefit from government schemes. There will be no need for middlemen. Our goal is to ensure that only those in genuine need receive the benefits,” he stated.
Suvendu Adhikari mentioned that approximately 7.9 million women have already received funds under the Annapurna scheme. Additionally, they can register for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana until July 20. If any discrepancies are found during the survey, citizens can report them to the government’s toll-free number.
The Chief Minister also announced plans for road repairs and beautification, as well as ensuring clean drinking water reaches every household. Efforts to enhance healthcare services are ongoing, with Ayushman Bharat cards set to be distributed starting in July. He indicated that a special announcement for the public would be made in the state budget scheduled for presentation on June 22.
Furthermore, he assured that job opportunities would be increased, and loan facilities would be made available for starting small businesses. Regarding rising electricity costs, the Chief Minister advised residents to install solar panels under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, which would help reduce domestic electricity bills. Application forms for this scheme can be obtained at the Jan Kalyan Camps.
