Greater Noida Intensifies Pollution Control Efforts with 21 Zones and Anti-Smog Guns

Greater Noida ramps up pollution control measures with 21 zones, deploying anti-smog guns and water tankers to improve air quality.

Greater Noida, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : Greater Noida is stepping up its fight against rising air pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region. In response to the deteriorating air quality, the Greater Noida Authority has launched a comprehensive initiative aimed at cleaning the air and controlling pollution. The city has been divided into 21 zones, with teams of officials and staff assigned to monitor dust control, construction sites, street cleaning, and incidents of waste burning.

Anti-smog guns, water tankers, and mechanical sweeping machines are being deployed at construction sites and public areas to help mitigate pollution. N.G. Ravi Kumar, the Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Noida Authority, has instructed relevant departments to ensure all necessary measures are in place to prevent air pollution. Teams from the project, health, and horticulture departments are actively working under the guidelines of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Each of the 21 zones has been assigned a senior manager as the zonal officer, with assistant zonal officers overseeing the operations. Work circles have also been given specific responsibilities to ensure regular monitoring across different parts of the city. These teams will keep an eye on the conditions of dust, dirt, and waste piles. If any negligence in cleanliness is observed, the relevant vendors will be notified to remove waste and ensure proper cleaning. Additionally, water will be sprayed on roads to prevent dust from rising, and teams will monitor for any incidents of waste burning.

A.K. Singh, the General Manager of Projects, and Vijay Rawal, the Deputy General Manager, are conducting regular inspections throughout the city to assess the effectiveness of the pollution control measures in place. According to Rawal, 216 anti-smog guns have been installed at construction sites, with an additional eight being used in public areas. This brings the total to 224 anti-smog guns aimed at curbing dust emissions. Treated water from sewage treatment plants is also being utilized to enhance both pollution control and water use efficiency.

Dust from construction sites adversely affects air quality in surrounding areas. Thus, the use of anti-smog guns and water spraying has become a crucial part of the pollution control campaign. The city is deploying 107 water tankers to spray water on roads and clean dust from trees.

The authority’s goal is to prevent accumulated dust from becoming airborne again, which would help maintain pollution levels. To support this, 11 mechanical sweeping machines have been introduced for cleaning major roads and designated areas.

The Greater Noida Authority is committed to strengthening cleanliness efforts and reducing dust particles through regular use of these resources. Monitoring teams are also keeping an eye on individuals and organizations that contribute to pollution, including vendors negligent in waste collection and those burning waste in the open.

A.K. Singh has urged residents to report any visible instances of waste burning to the authority. Citizens can contact the authority’s call center at 0120-2336046, 0120-2336047, 0120-2336048, and 0120-2336049, or submit complaints through the Mitra app. The authority is appealing to residents to participate in the cleanliness campaign and refrain from burning waste outdoors.

Officials emphasize that controlling pollution requires both administrative efforts and community participation. Continuous monitoring, cleaning, and dust control measures will remain in effect as part of this ongoing initiative.
