San Antonio, May 25: The San Antonio Spurs are battling for their playoff survival in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Entering the Sunday night matchup trailing 2-1 in the series, the Spurs needed a standout performance from their superstar center, Victor Wembanyama, to level the series before heading back to Oklahoma City. Wembanyama rose to the occasion with an extraordinary first half, highlighted by a remarkable shot that may define his early career.
As the first half was winding down, Wembanyama, standing at an impressive 7’5″, received the ball just before the buzzer. He launched a shot from the halfcourt logo, swishing it effortlessly and giving the Spurs a 12-point lead as they headed into halftime.
“I was convinced Wembanyama would make that halfcourt shot as soon as he caught the ball,” one observer noted. “We’ve seen him hit shots from Steph Curry range in clutch moments earlier in this series. His shooting range is exceptional.”
In the first half alone, Wembanyama scored 22 points, contributing to a +16 rating for the Spurs during his 18 minutes on the court. The Thunder, missing their second and third best playmakers, Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell due to injuries, faced an uphill battle against Wembanyama’s dominance.
Wembanyama’s ability to control the game at the rim on both ends is impressive, and making halfcourt shots with such ease seems almost unfair. While this shot marks the longest of his career, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to be surprised by his extraordinary skills.
