Bengaluru, June 17: Last week’s champion, Anvita Narendran, will not participate in the eighth leg of the Women’s Professional Golf Tour (WPGT). However, the competition at the Bengaluru Golf Club remains fierce, featuring a robust field of 57 players, including 12 amateurs.
With a prize pool of ₹1.7 million, the event will see 2025 Order of Merit winner Vani Kapoor competing, despite facing a playoff defeat last week in Mysuru. She will be joined by experienced players like Tvesa Malik, Ridhima Dilawari, Amandeep Drall, Neha Tripathi, Vidhatri Urs, and Seher Atwal, all of whom are strong contenders for the title. Each of these players has previously secured victories and possesses the capability to win again.
Vani Kapoor, who clinched five titles in 2025, will start as a top contender, but she faces significant challenges from numerous young players.
The new generation of golfers, including Mannat Barar, Heena Kang, and Jahnvi Bakshi, are poised to turn the tide in their favor. Additionally, promising amateurs like Zara Anand and Mahreen Bhatia are among the dozen players competing this week.
Last week, Anvita defeated star Vani Kapoor in the second playoff hole, while young amateur Ananya Sood showcased impressive performance in the early rounds. Riya Jadon also finished in third place. The increased participation of Indian female professional golfers in the Ladies European Tour and LET Access Tour has significantly bolstered the strength of women’s golf in India.
The combination of young and experienced players has resulted in a strong field and impressive scores in the Women’s Professional Golf Tour. This nearly two-decade-old tour continues to grow stronger each year.
Last week, Anvita maintained her composure under pressure, winning her second title at the seventh leg of the Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club. The young golfer from Bengaluru displayed remarkable determination, making a comeback on the back nine and ultimately defeating seasoned player Vani Kapoor in an exciting playoff.
