Lucknow, July 29: The Uttar Pradesh government is taking significant steps to enhance children’s health protection through its schools. In August, two special vaccination campaigns will be conducted in schools to provide a dual layer of protection against serious infectious diseases. The first phase will run from August 3 to 7, focusing on TD/Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis), while the second phase will take place from August 18 to 28, targeting the MR (Measles-Rubella) vaccination.
These campaigns will cover eligible children studying in government schools, aided schools, madrasas, and anganwadi centers across all 75 districts of the state. Monika Rani, the Director General of School Education and State Project Director, has issued detailed guidelines to all district school inspectors and district basic education officers for the effective implementation of the campaigns. According to the directives, health and education departments in each district will jointly prepare a comprehensive action plan.
District immunization officers, district basic education officers, and district school inspectors will establish coordination to create school-specific micro-plans. The goal is to ensure that no eligible child is left unvaccinated and that the campaigns are completed on time. Monika Rani has instructed officials to ensure that every activity related to the campaigns is carried out promptly. The aim is to make schools a strong center for both quality education and health protection, ensuring timely safety for every eligible child against serious infectious diseases.
During the TD/Tdap campaign from August 3 to 7, children aged 5 to 6 years (potential Class 1), 10 years (potential Class 5), and 16 years (potential Class 10 and 11) will receive age-appropriate additional doses of TDAP-2, TD-10, and TD-16. Each vaccination session aims to cover 50 to 75 children. Prior to the campaign, training, coordination meetings, and school-specific preparations will be completed at the state, district, and block levels.
Following the first phase, the MR (Measles-Rubella) campaign will be conducted from August 18 to 28. This campaign will provide additional doses of the MR vaccine to children aged 5 to 10 years across all 75 districts. Each school will aim to vaccinate 100 to 125 children daily, strengthening the prevention of diseases like measles and rubella. A nodal teacher will be appointed in each school for both campaigns.
Micro-plans will be developed for each school, and with the help of ASHA workers, anganwadi staff, and teachers, a list of eligible children will be prepared. To raise awareness among parents, prayer meetings, parent-teacher meetings, and public awareness activities will be organized to ensure maximum vaccination coverage.
The progress of the campaigns will be monitored regularly at the state and district levels. All activities will be uploaded to designated portals, and daily reviews will ensure necessary corrective actions are taken. Special attention will be given to the quality of the campaign, vaccination progress, and any missed children.
