No Need for Panic in Uttarakhand Amid Nepal Floods: Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman

Dehradun, August 27: Vinod Kumar Suman, the Disaster Management Secretary of Uttarakhand, has described the floods in Nepal as unfortunate but reassured residents that there will be no impact on the state. He emphasized that despite the ongoing monsoon season, the state is fully prepared to handle any situation. “We have completed all necessary preparations and have established a comprehensive plan that is currently being implemented,” he stated in a recent interview.

Suman noted that the meteorological department is closely monitoring the weather conditions. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, and vital information is being communicated to the relevant authorities. While the rainfall is expected to continue, he assured that it will not be excessive. “We will inform the concerned officials immediately if there are any changes in the weather,” he added. A helpline number has also been established for residents to reach out for assistance if needed.

Additionally, he mentioned that they have received reports about a British citizen who is currently missing, and efforts to locate this individual are ongoing. “At this time, we are not reaching out to various individuals but are gathering information solely from the relevant officials,” he explained. The focus remains on providing all possible support to affected individuals and ensuring they do not face any difficulties. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been established to guide their response efforts.

Suman assured the public that they are continuously updating information regarding river water levels. “If heavy rainfall causes river levels to rise, we will promptly inform the public,” he said. He also reassured tourists visiting Uttarakhand that there is no need for concern and that they are welcome to come. The Char Dham Yatra is ongoing, and pilgrims can visit without any issues. He advised tourists to carry their own food supplies in case they encounter difficulties finding provisions.

Moreover, he urged all tourists to download the ‘Sachet App’ on their mobile phones. This app will provide them with real-time weather updates. “Whenever you travel to mountainous areas, keep yourself informed about the weather to avoid any inconveniences,” he concluded.
