Bhopal, July 29: In Madhya Pradesh, farmers cultivating moong are protesting for the purchase of their produce at the minimum support price (MSP). In response to their demands, the state government has established a committee of ministers to engage in dialogue with the farmers.
Currently, the state is purchasing moong at the support price. However, farmers allege negligence and irregularities in the procurement process. As a result, farmers from various regions have marched towards the capital, Bhopal, with many already arriving. Due to the protests, barricades have been set up on several routes, leading to traffic disruptions, and alternative routes are being advised.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that farmers are a priority for the government, which is why the committee has been formed. The committee includes ministers such as Edal Singh Kansana, Krishna Gaur, Vishwas Sarang, and Rakesh Singh, who will communicate directly with the farmers.
Meanwhile, Jitu Patwari, president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, remarked that the arrival of the Kisan Kranti Yatra from Barkheda in Narmadapuram to Bhopal is evidence of the deep anger among farmers towards the BJP government’s policies. Thousands of farming families are on the streets of the capital, demanding their rightful claims, while the government remains silent.
Patwari emphasized that farmers are demanding 100% procurement of moong, a legal guarantee for the minimum support price, adequate availability of fertilizers, protection of farmers’ interests, and fulfillment of promises made by the central government. He stated that these are not political demands but fundamental issues related to farmers’ lives and livelihoods.
