Lucknow, July 29: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UP ATS) has made a significant breakthrough by arresting the mastermind of an inter-state gang involved in producing fake Indian documents. The accused, who has a bounty of ₹25,000 on his head, was apprehended in Murshidabad, West Bengal.
The UP ATS revealed that this gang was creating counterfeit documents, including Indian Aadhaar cards, for Rohingya, Bangladeshi, Nepali, and other foreign nationals. The operation was disclosed in a press release on Wednesday, highlighting that the gang previously exploited the system using VPNs to generate Aadhaar cards based on these fraudulent documents. Seventeen members of this syndicate have already been arrested across Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar.
Members of the gang were known to produce fake foundational Indian documents such as birth certificates, residence certificates, and school certificates to facilitate the creation of Aadhaar cards. They also established login IDs for their associates and illegally used these IDs to generate Aadhaar cards.
The mastermind, Alauddin, a resident of Ward No. 3, Rahmanpur, Raghunathganj in Murshidabad, was arrested on Tuesday. The UP ATS is currently bringing him back on transit remand and will seek custody for detailed interrogation. The police continue to investigate and take further action related to this case.
