Mumbai, August 27: The Maharashtra State Disaster Management Department confirmed on Thursday that 110 residents from Nagpur, who traveled to Nepal with the ‘Shri Swami Maharaj’ group, are safe. This group, primarily consisting of elderly individuals, entered Kathmandu on August 22 for a religious and tourism trip.
Officials reported that the severe flooding in Nepal on August 26 did not affect this group. They are in constant contact to monitor their situation.
According to the Nagpur district administration, all 110 individuals are safely accommodated at the Maheshwari Samaj facility in Kathmandu, where local authorities are providing necessary assistance and support. Nepalese officials have arranged alternative bus transportation for their return journey.
The group departed from Kathmandu on August 27 towards Janakpur, near the Nepal-India border, and is expected to arrive there by the morning of August 28. From Janakpur, they will enter India and head towards Patna. A train journey back to Nagpur from Danapur Railway Station is scheduled for August 28.
Authorities have developed a comprehensive plan to ensure their safe return home. The district administration is also in contact with their relatives in Nagpur, who have confirmed that everyone in the group is safe. Individuals like Ankush Ludekar from Prem Nagar, Itwari, and Ashutosh Chaudhary from Manewada are in ongoing communication with officials.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke with the stranded citizens and assured them of all possible assistance for their safe return.
The Chief Minister’s office posted on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “All 106 travelers from Nagpur have safely departed from Kathmandu for Danapur, Bihar. Following a phone call from CM Devendra Fadnavis, Nepalese MP Sandeep Rana arranged four mini-buses for their journey from Kathmandu to Janakpur. The travelers are expected to reach the Janakpur-Bihar border tomorrow morning. Buses have been arranged for their journey to Danapur, Bihar, where their return trip by train has also been organized.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde mentioned that several citizens from Maharashtra, particularly from Satara, Mahabaleshwar, and Pune, are stranded in Nepal. Officials are continuously working to contact them and ensure their safe return.
Efforts are also being made to reach stranded citizens from Maharashtra through Shiv Sena workers present in Nepal.
