Uttar Pradesh Metro Launches International Online Certificate Courses in Metro Technology

Lucknow, July 29: In response to the rapid expansion of metro networks and the increasing demand for skilled technical professionals, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has launched international online certificate courses. This initiative makes UPMRC the first metro organization in India to offer such online technical certification programs for the metro sector.

This initiative is seen as a significant step towards developing trained human resources for the metro sector, not just in India but globally. On Wednesday, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar inaugurated these online certificate courses. He stated that this initiative aligns with the central government’s ‘Skill India Mission,’ aimed at providing world-class training to youth and technical professionals. Currently, metro services are operational in 26 cities across India, with the country’s metro network exceeding 1,095 kilometers in length.

India has now become the third-largest country in the world in terms of metro networks. The rapid expansion of new metro projects in various parts of the world, including the Gulf countries, has led to a continuous rise in the demand for trained engineers and technical experts. Recognizing this need, UPMRC has initiated this program, launching over a dozen online certificate courses in the first phase.

These courses cover various technical subjects related to metro operations, including rolling stock, signaling, track maintenance, and automatic fare collection (AFC). In the future, additional courses related to metro planning, construction, operations, maintenance, safety, and modern technologies will also be introduced. Engineers, technical experts, consultants, employees from contracting companies, students from engineering and technical institutions, and youth aspiring for careers in the metro sector can participate online from anywhere in the world.

Enrollment is available for both Indian and international participants. UPMRC has kept the course fees affordable, charging 200 rupees for Indian participants and 100 US dollars for foreign participants. Interested candidates can register through the ‘Online Courses’ section on UPMRC’s official website.

Sushil Kumar emphasized that given the pace at which metro networks are expanding in India and worldwide, there is an ever-growing need for trained human resources with specialized technical knowledge and practical experience. He added that through these international online certificate courses, UPMRC aims to extend its technical expertise globally. This will strengthen the ‘Skill India Mission’ and prepare a large number of trained and certified professionals for future metro projects.
