Jaipur, August 27: The Rajasthan government announced on Thursday the suspension of the Pashupatinath pilgrimage to Nepal, citing the recent natural disaster and ongoing challenging conditions. This decision falls under the Chief Minister‘s Senior Citizens Pilgrimage Scheme.
Devsthan Minister Joraram Kumawat stated that following the directives of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, air travel to Kathmandu has been halted for five days, from August 27 to August 31, 2026.
Officials indicated that this decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of senior citizens. Kumawat emphasized that the health and safety of elderly pilgrims are the state’s top priorities.
He noted that the recent tragedy in Nepal has adversely affected the local conditions and infrastructure, creating risks for senior citizens planning to travel.
The minister explained that this precautionary measure aims to prevent any difficulties or safety hazards for the pilgrims during their journey. The government is closely monitoring the situation in Nepal before deciding to resume services.
Reassuring senior citizens and their families, Kumawat urged pilgrims not to feel disheartened by this temporary suspension. He mentioned that the Devsthan department is continuously observing the weather conditions, infrastructure, and security arrangements in Nepal. The pilgrimage schedule will be revised once conditions are deemed normal and safe.
Necessary arrangements will be made to ensure that eligible senior citizens can undertake the pilgrimage with complete safety. Kumawat reiterated that this suspension is a precautionary step, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of senior citizens participating in the scheme.
