Maharajganj, August 27: Following a devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal’s Rasuwagadhi district, authorities in Maharajganj have heightened alertness for potential flooding. The district administration is fully on alert, deploying rescue teams to coastal areas along the Gandak River.
District Magistrate Gaurav Singh Sograwal has instructed the revenue department, police, SDRF, and SSB rescue teams to maintain special vigilance in the Gandak River’s coastal regions.
Currently, the water level of the Gandak River is flowing normally and remains below the danger mark. However, in light of potential flooding, the administration is taking no chances. Continuous monitoring is underway in coastal areas, and residents have been urged to stay vigilant.
District Magistrate Gaurav Singh Sograwal and Superintendent of Police Shakti Mohan Awasthi inspected the Patlahwa area along the Gandak River in the Nichlaul tehsil and the Valmiki Barrage. They directed on-site officials to remain alert and prepared for any emergency situations.
Afterward, both officials visited Sohgibarwa, the district’s most flood-prone village. They assessed safety measures and the readiness of rescue operations, engaging with villagers to hear their concerns and providing directives to officials for solutions.
Residents reported a climate of fear in the area following news of the flooding in Nepal. Many people in border villages were unable to sleep on Wednesday night due to the anxiety over potential flooding, as they worked to secure their belongings.
The District Magistrate reassured villagers that the administration is fully prepared and has made all arrangements to handle any situation. Rescue teams are on standby at all times, with provisions for boats, food, medicine, and other essential supplies already in place.
Authorities have urged residents to disregard rumors and follow the issued guidelines during any emergency situation.
