Poonch, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, have arrested two men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 7th-grade student. The arrests were made on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father at the Gursai police station.
According to reports, the incident took place on September 6 when the girl was returning home. She reportedly got into a taxi driven by Zahid Mushtaq, also known as Sonu, who, along with his friend Mohammad Irfan, is accused of taking her to his home.
Police have stated that the two men held the student captive for three days and repeatedly assaulted her. Following the complaint, law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending both suspects. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including gang rape, kidnapping, and wrongful confinement, as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The incident has sparked outrage and fear among residents in Poonch, especially in light of another recent case in Kishtwar district. In that incident, a 15-year-old girl died after allegedly being sexually abused by a school teacher, which resulted in her pregnancy. The case has already led to the arrest of seven individuals, with the investigation now under the jurisdiction of the crime branch.
As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock, grappling with the implications of these violent acts against minors.
