Trump to Skip Israeli Independence Day Celebration: Reports

Jerusalem, April 14: Israeli media reported on Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump will not attend Israel’s 78th Independence Day celebration next week.

According to Israeli news outlet Ynet, Trump will neither visit Israel for Independence Day nor participate online in the awards ceremony.

In December, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a break from decades of tradition by honoring Trump with the Israeli Prize, the nation’s highest cultural award.

During a news conference in Florida on December 29, Netanyahu stood alongside the U.S. President and made the significant announcement. He stated, “We have decided to break a tradition or create a new one, which is to award the Israeli Prize; we have never given it to a non-Israeli in our nearly 80-year history, and this year we will be giving it to President Trump.”

The award was set to be presented during Trump’s next visit to Israel.

Ynet also reported that singer Noa Kirel’s participation in the event has been postponed. She was scheduled to perform in honor of the U.S. President, and it was expected that Trump’s granddaughters would join her on stage.

The report noted, “It should be mentioned that the White House has not officially announced that Trump will not come to Israel, but Jerusalem has already understood that, given the ceasefire timeline with Iran and its expiration on April 21, the likelihood of his arrival is almost zero, as the ceremony is set for April 22. During the Israeli Prize ceremony, there will be a video mentioning Trump’s victory, but as reported, the award presentation will be postponed to a separate event that will be held later when he visits Israel.”

The report also indicated that Argentine President Javier Milei will participate in the Israeli Independence Day celebration, as his arrival was agreed upon before the ceasefire with Iran, and he is expected to arrive in Israel on April 18.
