Islamabad, April 14: Two oil tankers flying the Pakistani flag, which were heading towards the Strait of Hormuz, suddenly made a 180-degree turn and changed their course.
According to a report by Iran’s Fars News Agency, these tankers were initially moving eastward towards the Strait of Hormuz but turned back westward on Sunday.
The report also indicated that the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz is entirely under the control of the Iranian military. Vessels must obtain permission and complete necessary paperwork from Iran to pass through this critical waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, is one of the world’s most vital oil routes. Approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through this region.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran on Monday, stating that any naval vessel approaching American ships enforcing a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would be destroyed immediately. This statement came after peace talks between the two nations broke down.
Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the Iranian navy has suffered significant losses. He noted that the Iranian navy is now largely incapacitated, although some “fast attack ships” remain operational.
He emphasized, “We did not target their small fast attack ships because they did not seem to pose a significant threat.” Trump clearly warned Iran, stating, “If these vessels come near our blockade, they will be destroyed immediately. We will use the same methods we apply against drug traffickers at sea—swift and extremely strict.”
