New Delhi, April 14: US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, has expressed support for countries working to end ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. He stated that if India chooses to participate, it would be welcomed by President Donald Trump.
In an interview with NDTV, Gore emphasized that there is no discrimination regarding which nations can assist in resolving the conflicts in the region. “Just as we welcome the involvement of many other countries, we would welcome India’s participation as well,” he noted.
However, he clarified that the decision lies with India on how it wishes to engage. “This question is for India… but I believe the whole world can play a role in the peace process, and India can be part of it,” he added.
Gore recently returned from Washington, where he met with President Trump to discuss advancing the India-US strategic partnership. He hinted at significant decisions that could soon strengthen the ties between the two nations. “There may be news in the coming days, but I cannot share more at this moment,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from President Trump on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed the situation in West Asia and ways to enhance their bilateral relations.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Modi wrote, “I received a call from my friend, President Donald Trump. We reviewed the tremendous progress in our bilateral cooperation across various sectors. We are fully committed to further strengthening our ‘comprehensive global strategic partnership’.”
He also mentioned their discussion on the West Asia situation, emphasizing the need for the Strait of Hormuz to remain open and secure.
Gore noted that President Trump regularly updates Prime Minister Modi on relevant developments.
India has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy as essential for resolving the conflict. The nation welcomed the ceasefire between the US and Iran, expressing hope for lasting peace in the region.
New Delhi believes that the ongoing conflict has caused significant harm to people and has impacted global energy supply and trade. India also seeks uninterrupted trade and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
