Lucknow, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Former Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Govind Chaudhary has passed away, prompting an outpouring of grief from party members. They described his departure as an irreplaceable loss for both Ballia and the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
Awdhesh Prasad, a Samajwadi Party MP, expressed his sorrow, stating, “Ram Govind Chaudhary is no longer with us. His life was filled with struggles. He was first elected in 1977 and spent nearly 14 months in jail during the Emergency. We were also imprisoned during that time. He joined the movement at the call of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan.”
Prasad emphasized that Chaudhary dedicated his life to fighting for the oppressed, laborers, farmers, students, and youth. He remained loyal to the party, working tirelessly to strengthen its grassroots presence. Whether as Leader of the Opposition or a minister, he carved out a unique identity.
Akhilesh Yadav visited to pay his respects to Chaudhary. Prasad noted, “He was a loyal party member, and Akhilesh Yadav had great trust in him. Our national president made relentless efforts for his treatment during his illness, but his time had come.”
Rajiv Rai, another Samajwadi Party MP, echoed these sentiments, stating, “This is an irreplaceable loss for Ballia and Uttar Pradesh politics. I had the opportunity to work alongside him under the guidance of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, and he was also a close friend of my father.”
Sanjay Singh, an MP from the Aam Aadmi Party, also extended his condolences. He remarked, “Ram Govind Chaudhary hailed from ‘Rebellious Ballia,’ known as a bastion of socialist politics, and where Chandra Shekhar also emerged. His contributions as a minister and eight-time MLA from Ballia are exemplary. His passing is a significant loss for Uttar Pradesh politics and the socialist movement.”
Singh added, “On behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, and my colleagues, I pay tribute to him. I pray that God grants his soul a place at His feet and provides strength to his family and all those mourning this loss.”
