Mumbai, June 20: A devastating incident occurred in Parbhani district, Maharashtra, on Saturday. The roof of the assembly hall at Maruti Temple collapsed, resulting in the deaths of five devotees and injuring over 40 others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the tragedy.
In a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property due to the wall collapse in Parbhani, Maharashtra. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also conveyed his profound sadness regarding the incident at the Hanuman Temple in Yashawadi, Parbhani district. He announced that the state government would provide financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the families of the deceased.
Earlier, he wrote on X that a portion of the under-construction roof at the Hanuman Temple in Yashawadi collapsed, leading to the tragic loss of some devotees. “I express my deepest condolences. We share in the grief of their families. The injured are receiving treatment, and local administration officials are present at the site, where rescue and relief operations are underway,” he added.
Reports indicate that the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the slab of the Hanuman Temple fell in Yashawadi village, Parbhani district. So far, approximately 25 people have been rescued from the debris. The site is located about 190 kilometers from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Manvat Road.
On the day of the incident, a Kirtan and Mahaprasad event was taking place at the temple, attracting a large number of devotees. Construction work was also ongoing at the temple. The sudden collapse caused panic and chaos among the attendees. Police and health department teams promptly arrived at the scene to initiate a rescue operation.
