
Bengaluru, May 27: A tragic road accident in Chitradurga district, Karnataka, on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of five individuals, with several others injured. The incident occurred near the village of Bairapura on National Highway-150A, causing chaos in the area and leading to a significant traffic jam.
According to police reports, a high-speed lorry collided head-on with a Bolero vehicle. The impact was so severe that the Bolero was completely mangled, leaving its occupants with no chance to react.
Five people died at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Shivamma (25), Meenakshi (16), Pooja (4), Parshuram (1.5 years), and Venkatesh (28). All victims were residents of Bellary district.
Reports indicate that four members of the same family lost their lives, plunging their family and village into mourning. Those injured were promptly admitted to the Molakalmuru Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Upon receiving news of the accident, the Molakalumuru police arrived at the scene to initiate rescue operations. They removed the wrecked vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow and began an investigation into the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding and reckless driving may have contributed significantly to the accident. However, police are examining all aspects of the case.
In the wake of this tragic event, local residents have expressed concerns about the increasing number of road accidents on the highway. They noted that high-speed vehicles frequently cause accidents on this route, yet adequate safety measures have not been implemented.
