Amaravati, March 4: A devastating road accident in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, resulted in the deaths of five family members on Wednesday. The tragic incident occurred near the Dudapalli junction on the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway.
According to police reports, a car collided violently with a truck ahead, causing severe damage to the vehicle. All five occupants of the car died at the scene. Local residents and police teams quickly arrived to initiate rescue operations.
The deceased were identified as residents of Rajaji Nagar in Bengaluru, who were en route to Tirumala for a pilgrimage. The victims have been named as Mohan Das, Nagaraj Rao, Kusuma, Jayanti, and Pooja.
The truck was reportedly heading towards Kurnool after unloading cement in Palamaneru when the accident occurred. The impact was so intense that the car passengers had no chance of survival.
Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations and notified the families. Gangavaram Circle Inspector Ram Bhupal stated that a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Initial inquiries suggest that speeding and negligence may have contributed to the crash.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Sangareddy district, Telangana, a car suddenly caught fire. This occurred on the national highway near Nandikdi in the Sadashivpet mandal.
The driver, noticing smoke emanating from the vehicle, wisely pulled over and exited, thus escaping unharmed. Shortly after, the car was engulfed in flames and completely destroyed.
Firefighters arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the vehicle was entirely lost.
Additionally, in Nalgonda district, a religious event led to an accident on Wednesday. During the Sri Parvati Jadala Ramlingeshwar Swami Kalyanotsav in Vemulapalle, ten devotees were injured during the Agigundalu (firewalking) ritual, a highlight of the annual fair that attracts large crowds.
Reports indicate that as the procession carrying a religious symbol passed over burning coals, a commotion in the crowd caused several devotees to lose their balance and fall into the fire.
At least ten devotees suffered burns and were promptly admitted to a government hospital with the assistance of police and local residents. Authorities have begun an investigation into the incident and are reviewing safety measures for the event.
