Jaipur, April 18: A tragic incident occurred in the Jhotwara area of Jaipur on Friday, resulting in the deaths of two sanitation workers during a cleaning operation. This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of contract workers engaged in hazardous jobs.
The incident took place near the 200-feet road in the Jhotwara zone. The deceased were contract laborers who were reportedly instructed to enter the sewer tank for cleaning purposes.
According to reports, the workers lost consciousness due to the presence of toxic gases inside the tank. As their condition deteriorated, they were pulled out and rushed to Kanwatiya Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
As of this report, the official identification of the deceased has not been confirmed. Following the incident, family members and local residents gathered outside the hospital morgue, creating an atmosphere of grief and sorrow.
These deaths have raised serious questions about adherence to safety regulations during sewer cleaning operations. Allegations have surfaced that the workers were sent into the tank without adequate safety equipment and without following standard safety procedures.
Such practices violate guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, which prohibit manual entry into sewers and septic tanks without proper safety measures and gear. Despite repeated directives and regulations, incidents related to the deaths of sanitation workers continue to emerge from various parts of the country.
In this case, it has also been alleged that the contractor responsible for the work fled the scene immediately after the incident, raising further concerns about accountability. Police and administrative officials arrived at the site after receiving information and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Authorities have stated that responsibility will be determined following the investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.
This incident highlights the urgent need to enforce safety protocols strictly to protect sanitation workers from risks and prevent such fatalities in the future.
