Jaipur, April 17: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma stated on Friday that the people of West Bengal are “fed up with the politics of appeasement and corruption.” He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of halting development in the state.
While addressing an event for the Marwari community in Siliguri, Sharma claimed that public resources are being misused and illegal immigration is being encouraged.
In contrast, he emphasized that the BJP stands for “clean intentions, clear policies, and rapid development.”
He further noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s global stature has significantly increased, and the country is rapidly progressing on the path of development.
“The people of West Bengal have made up their minds. The BJP will form a government here with a massive majority,” he asserted.
Highlighting Rajasthan’s cultural heritage, Chief Minister Sharma referred to it as “the land of strength and devotion,” recalling the contributions of great figures like Mirabai, Maharana Pratap, and Surajmal.
He also paid tribute to Siliguri’s spiritual heritage, mentioning places like the Sevakeshwari Kali Temple and the Siddheshwar Shiva Temple.
Sharma praised the global philanthropic contributions of the Marwari community, referencing their role in establishing hospitals, schools, cow shelters, and other social institutions.
He outlined key initiatives from the central government, including “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” the Ujjwala scheme, the Jan Dhan scheme, and the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, stating that these programs have benefited women, farmers, and marginalized communities.
He emphasized the importance of the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” in ensuring women’s participation in nation-building.
Regarding infrastructure, the Rajasthan Chief Minister pointed to major ongoing projects under the Bharat Mala project, including the 520-kilometer “Greenfield Expressway” connecting Gorakhpur to Siliguri, the six-lane “Kolkata-Siliguri Highway,” and the modernization of Bagdogra Airport. He noted that these projects will boost trade and tourism in the region.
Sharma also highlighted Rajasthan’s development, stating that the current BJP-led state government is fulfilling its electoral promises in various sectors such as water, electricity, industry, and employment.
He added that efforts to promote tourism and preserve heritage buildings, especially the havelis of the Shekhawati region, are ongoing. Earlier on Friday, CM Sharma participated in a grand roadshow in support of BJP candidate Shankar Ghosh from the Siliguri assembly seat, which drew a massive crowd.
The Chief Minister received a warm welcome from his supporters; the event was filled with slogans and tremendous enthusiasm among the attendees.
He appealed to voters to ensure a decisive victory for the BJP candidate.
Local representatives and a large number of Rajasthan expatriates were present at the event.
