
New Delhi, March 18: A devastating fire broke out in a four-story residential building in the Palam area of Delhi on Wednesday. Reports indicate that six people have lost their lives due to this tragic incident. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her deep sorrow over the event and assured that appropriate measures would be taken to rescue those trapped inside the building.
In a post on her social media account, CM Rekha Gupta wrote, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the unfortunate fire incident in a multi-story residential building in Palam. According to the information received, six people are feared dead, while some individuals are still trapped inside. The district administration, Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police are leading the rescue operation. A magistrate inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident. I pray for everyone’s safety!”
The fire erupted at 7:04 AM on Wednesday in a four-story building located at Ram Market in Palam. The building, owned by Rajendra Kashyap, housed a clothing and cosmetics showroom on the basement, ground, and first floors, while his family resided on the second and third floors. Upon receiving news of the fire, the SHO and his team promptly arrived at the scene.
So far, ten individuals have been safely rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, six people have died at Manipal Hospital, including Pravesh (35), Kamal (40), Ashu (32), and three minor girls aged 12, 6, and 5 years. Additionally, a 38-year-old woman died at IGI Hospital, while a 40-year-old man and a 2-year-old girl are currently receiving treatment. A 19-year-old male is hospitalized at Safdarjung Hospital with 25% burn injuries.
Emergency response was swift, with nearly 20 fire engines, 11 CAT ambulances, and teams from BSES, Air Force Police, and NDRF arriving at the scene. After intensive efforts, the fire was brought under control.
A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has been called in for investigation, and all relevant agencies along with local police remain present at the site.
