SSB Soldier Dies by Self-Inflicted Gunshot in Jharkhand

Chhatra, March 18: A soldier from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) reportedly shot himself with his service rifle in Chhatra district, Jharkhand, resulting in his immediate death. The incident caused panic at the security camp, and the reasons behind the suicide remain unclear.

The incident occurred in the Shila OP picket area of the Simaria police station, where the soldier was stationed with the 35th battalion of the SSB. Around 10 PM last night, the soldier shot himself with his own service rifle. The deceased has been identified as Prahlad Kumar Singh, a resident of Mahatodiha village in Deoghar district.

Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot in the stillness of the night. When fellow soldiers arrived, they found Prahlad lying in a pool of blood. Given the seriousness of the situation, the Chhatra Superintendent of Police and the SSB Commandant arrived at the scene late at night to assess the situation. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it to Chhatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

Prahlad Singh’s body was brought to the hospital on Wednesday morning, leading to an emotional scene as family members mourned. Prahlad’s brother, Rohit Singh, stated that they received a call from the battalion informing them that Prahlad had been shot. He mentioned that he spoke with his brother on Tuesday evening, and there were no indications of distress.

Rohit further revealed that Prahlad had returned to duty just a month ago after leave. On the day of the incident, he last spoke to his brother around 5 PM, mentioning he was going to play cricket and would later attend a prayer meeting.

According to family members, Prahlad Singh joined the force in 2017 and got married in 2018. He leaves behind a young daughter.

Currently, the police and the department are investigating all aspects, including potential interpersonal conflicts or mental stress.
