
New Delhi, June 3: A devastating fire at the Flourish Stay Hotel in Malviya Nagar has resulted in a tragic loss of life. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi reported that 21 individuals have died, with many others injured in the incident.
According to AIIMS’s media cell, a total of 13 people were admitted to the trauma center following the fire. Among them, three individuals jumped from the upper floors of the hotel in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.
Of the three who were injured from the fall, two left the hospital against medical advice despite being in stable condition. The third patient, a woman, suffered severe head injuries and has undergone surgery. Her condition remains critical.
AIIMS also confirmed that out of the 13 injured, 10 are Delhi police officers. These officers were among the first responders, working to rescue those trapped inside the hotel. They sustained injuries while conducting rescue operations amidst smoke and flames. Hospital authorities stated that all 10 officers are in stable condition and may be discharged soon.
In addition to the injured, three unidentified bodies were brought to AIIMS. These bodies have been sent to the Burns and Plastic Surgery department for further processing.
The fire reportedly started around 8:50 AM on Wednesday in a restaurant located in the hotel’s basement. It quickly spread throughout the multi-story building. During the rescue operation, a total of 47 individuals were evacuated, but unfortunately, 21 lives could not be saved. This incident is considered one of the most severe fire disasters in recent years in the capital.
Officials indicated that among the deceased are nationals from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. The Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, and disaster management teams conducted a rescue operation that lasted several hours and concluded by noon.
In response to the incident, the Delhi Police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including provisions related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Investigative agencies are also looking into potential violations of safety standards and licensing regulations at the hotel.
