Tragic Collapse in Mangalore: Three Lives Lost Amid Heavy Rainfall

Mangalore, July 1: A tragic incident occurred in Mangalore, Karnataka, where a house was crushed by debris during heavy rainfall, resulting in the loss of three lives. Three others sustained injuries and have been transported to the hospital, where they are reported to be out of danger.

The incident took place around 4:30 AM in the Nagori area, behind the Kankanady police station. A compound wall from an elevated house collapsed onto four different buildings. The rear section of a house with a tiled roof completely caved in, trapping the residents inside. Local residents and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene following the incident.

After extensive rescue efforts, emergency personnel managed to extract one man and two girls alive, who were then taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, a woman and two girls trapped under the debris were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were later recovered after a thorough rescue operation.

In addition to local police and firefighters, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed to expedite the rescue efforts. Officials later confirmed that all individuals trapped under the debris had been accounted for, either rescued or recovered, and the operation was officially concluded.

A local resident recounted the event to a news agency, stating that at around 4:30 AM, people were asleep in their homes when he suddenly heard a loud noise. Upon checking, he found children trapped under the rubble. He noted that after about an hour, the NDRF team arrived, initiating the rescue operations. While two girls were rescued, the other two girls and one woman sadly lost their lives.
