Chittorgarh, 30 July: Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena has strongly criticised the functioning of the Special Operations Group (SOG) in connection with the ongoing fake degree scandal at Mewar University in Chittorgarh. During a surprise visit to the university on Tuesday, Meena questioned the agency’s handling of the case and declared that further investigation will now be conducted by his department.

SOG Visited Only Once, No Action Since: Meena
Addressing the media during his visit, Meena said, “The SOG team came only once and left. If the Additional DG of SOG is listening, let them know this drama will no longer continue. It is unacceptable to abandon an incomplete investigation. Now our department will take this matter forward.”
He added that the degrees being issued were nothing more than “bundles of paper” with no real recognition or academic value. Meena also called the situation unfortunate, referring to last year’s arrest of the university’s Dean, Kaushal Kishore Chandrul, by the SOG. Despite that action, allegations persist that degrees are still being sold for money.
Student Complaint Reveals Shocking Details
The matter came to light after a student named Swatantra Vishnoi from Bikaner approached Minister Meena with a complaint. According to Vishnoi, though he passed Class 12 with Commerce, a middleman promised to get him an Agriculture Diploma certificate in exchange for ₹50,000. The certificate later issued claimed he passed with 66% marks.
Vishnoi revealed that no online or offline classes were conducted—he was simply called in for a direct exam. Minister Meena personally examined the answer sheets and was shocked to find that all four papers had only marginal marks and no examiner signatures, pointing to serious malpractice.
Middlemen Active Across Rajasthan
It has also come to light that middlemen are operating in every district of Rajasthan on behalf of Mewar University. These agents reportedly target unemployed youth and lure them with the promise of obtaining degrees without studying. There are also allegations that such degrees are being used to secure government jobs.
Past Action, No Follow-Up
In April 2024, SOG had conducted a major raid at Mewar University. The investigation revealed that hundreds of students were awarded fake degrees at the Gangrar and Noida campuses in exchange for large sums of money.
At the time, SOG had arrested Kamla Vishnoi from Sanchore and a Brahma Kumari who had secured jobs in the RPSC Hindi Lecturer Recruitment 2022 using forged degrees. Dean Kaushal Kishore had confessed during interrogation that he had issued hundreds of fake certificates over the past five years.
