New Delhi, March 13: Wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in India rose by 10.6% year-on-year in February, exceeding 417,705 units. This growth is attributed to positive market sentiment, as reported by the industry body on Friday.
In February 2025, wholesale sales of passenger vehicles stood at 377,689 units.
According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the increase in passenger vehicle sales is primarily driven by a surge in demand for SUVs, which saw a year-on-year rise of 13.5% to 236,957 units, up from 208,795 units previously.
However, car wholesale sales experienced a decline of 3.8% in February 2026, totaling 106,799 units, compared to 110,966 units during the same period last year.
Van sales in February 2026 reached 11,620 units, slightly up from 11,493 units in the same month last year.
The industry data indicates that wholesale sales of two-wheelers surged by 35.2% year-on-year in February 2026, reaching 1,871,406 units, compared to 1,384,605 units in the previous year.
Three-wheeler wholesale sales also saw a significant increase, rising by 29% to 74,573 units, up from 57,788 units in February of the previous year.
Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, commented on the industry’s performance, stating, “The industry is experiencing a positive atmosphere, as sales of passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers recorded the highest figures for February 2026, reflecting double-digit growth compared to February 2025.”
He added, “While March brings festive celebrations in many parts of the country, recent conflicts in West Asia pose concerns for the supply chain, potentially impacting both manufacturing processes and exports.”
