Mumbai, June 7: In today’s world, schemes promising quick riches have spread across the country. Every year, thousands fall victim to these deceptive promises, losing their hard-earned money. To shed light on this issue, director Shreyansh Pandey is launching the web series “The Pyramid Scheme.”
During a promotional event, he shared that the series tells the story of millions who have been affected by Ponzi or pyramid schemes in various forms.
In an interview, Shreyansh Pandey revealed, “Over the past 20 years, more than 5,000 companies have emerged in the country, luring people with grand dreams and then disappearing with millions. More than 50 million people have fallen prey to these schemes. This figure only accounts for reported cases; the actual number could be much higher, as many individuals never report their scams.”
He added, “When someone loses money in such schemes, they are not only financially devastated but also mentally shattered. They feel they have made a mistake, which is why they hesitate to approach the police or authorities. Many don’t even share their experiences with family or friends due to shame, fear, and social pressure. This is why our team had to delve deeply into research on this topic.”
The director explained that the journey of this story began in 2011. “At that time, I had an idea about this subject, but understanding it fully and presenting it accurately was challenging. After extensive research, conversations with people, and studying real incidents, I finally found the perspective needed to create this show.”
Shreyansh noted, “The impact of pyramid schemes is so widespread that almost everyone has some connection to it. Whether it’s an uncle, brother, sister, friend, or another relative, someone has encountered such a scheme. This issue has affected millions of families directly or indirectly, which is why this story resonates on a personal level.”
He emphasized, “The greatest strength of this topic lies in its reality. It’s not a fictional world but a reflection of events that continuously occur in society. Therefore, viewers will see characters and situations they can relate to when watching this series.”
