Hyderabad, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has called for the arrest of a police constable who made derogatory comments about her on social media. Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad on Sunday, she expressed that merely suspending the officer was insufficient. Kavitha questioned why the constable had not been dismissed or charged under relevant legal provisions.
She insisted that a formal case should be filed against the officer, and that appropriate charges must be brought to ensure justice. Kavitha warned that if the government failed to take action, she would raise the issue on international platforms.
The TRS leader emphasized the need for existing laws, including provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act, to be enforced against online harassment of women. “It is deeply troubling that individuals in responsible positions make inappropriate comments on social media while the government and police remain completely indifferent,” she stated.
Kavitha challenged the Director General of Police (DGP) by asking how he would react if similar comments were made about his own daughters. “DGP, you have two daughters. If someone made such obscene remarks about them, would you simply suspend the offender and remain silent?” she questioned.
Reflecting on her own experiences, she noted that it is unimaginable how everyday women are treated when they seek justice, especially given her two decades of active political involvement. Kavitha urged that the proposed hate speech bill, previously discussed by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, should be introduced in the upcoming assembly session.
She accused the Chief Minister of exploiting Telangana workers for political gain while failing to deliver on promises related to identity cards, pensions, and insurance, despite being in power for three years. “We demand that the government fulfill all commitments made to those who participated in the Telangana struggle. These issues must be resolved in a timely manner,” she said.
Kavitha highlighted the lack of progress on the welfare committee report appointed by the government and called for a clear commitment during the assembly session. She warned of intensifying protests if her demands continue to be ignored. Additionally, she advocated for the introduction of a fee regulation act, stressing its importance for many poorer families who struggle to afford private education.
