New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : India has officially condemned the recent attacks by Houthi rebels on Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement on Wednesday addressing the issue.
In response to inquiries about the Houthi assaults, an MEA spokesperson condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabia’s sovereign territory, particularly highlighting the targeting of civilians and economic centers. The spokesperson stated that such actions, which undermine regional security and stability, are unacceptable and pose a threat to the freedom of movement in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
On Tuesday, Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeted several civilian and economic sites in Saudi Arabia, resulting in 73 injuries, as confirmed by local authorities. The Saudi Ministry of Energy reported that multiple energy and oil facilities in the southern region were hit during the attacks.
The Houthis, in turn, alleged that Saudi forces attacked one of their prisons, leading to the deaths of 11 individuals. The rebels claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes on significant locations, including Abha International Airport, King Khalid Air Base, and facilities of the Saudi state oil company Aramco in Abha and Jizan.
In the aftermath of the attacks, Saudi Arabia has warned of a strong retaliatory response. According to Saudi officials and media, the assaults caused fires in several oil facilities, temporarily halting operations. Videos circulating on social media depict the oil sites engulfed in flames following the missile and drone strikes.
This recent escalation marks the most severe attack by the Houthis since the breakdown of a four-year ceasefire in Yemen last July. The Saudi Foreign Ministry has firmly stated that the nation will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty.
