Kolkata, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari is set to lead the ‘Gerua Samman Yatra’ in Kolkata on September 9. The event aims to promote awareness about the significance of the saffron color, often associated with sacrifice, dedication, and Indian tradition.
According to a social media post released on Sunday, the yatra will commence at 3 PM from Golpark and proceed to Jadavpur. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has encouraged people from across the state to participate.
The post emphasizes that saffron is not merely a color but a symbol of values deeply rooted in Indian culture. This initiative seeks to convey that message to the public.
In recent days, CM Adhikari has been vocal about perceived insults to the saffron color. He expressed his discontent in a newspaper article regarding the association of the term “Tandav” with saffron, claiming it undermines the dignity of the color.
Political analysts suggest that the yatra also aims to address recent controversies surrounding Jadavpur University. Adhikari has previously stated that nationalism will be reinforced within the university. Recently, an incident where students erased slogans from leftist organizations to write nationalist ones has garnered attention. It is believed that the Gerua Samman Yatra will strengthen the BJP’s message on this issue.
