Hyderabad, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) organized a significant protest at Indira Park on Sunday, calling for K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), to resign from his positions as leader of the opposition and as an MLA.
Congress leaders, including ministers, criticized KCR for collecting salaries and allowances while failing to attend the Assembly sessions. They accused the former Chief Minister of misusing public funds while remaining disconnected from the people.
Protesters demanded KCR’s resignation, citing his absence from the Assembly for nearly a thousand days and neglecting his responsibilities as the opposition leader. They highlighted that KCR continues to earn a salary of ₹1.32 crore while living in his farmhouse and not participating in legislative sessions. Additionally, they claimed that ₹21 crore from the state treasury has been spent on his security and bulletproof vehicles.
Ministers such as Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, and Mohammad Azharuddin participated in the demonstration, which was held ahead of the monsoon session of the Assembly starting Monday.
Ponnam Prabhakar stated that it is inappropriate for someone who ignores public issues to remain in office. D. Sridhar Babu criticized BRS leaders for speaking on the streets while avoiding the Assembly, asserting that Congress would respond if they raised issues in the legislature. He urged KCR, who served as Chief Minister for a decade, to share his experiences in the Assembly.
Sridhar Babu encouraged Congress workers to counter the opposition’s misinformation campaigns on social media, questioning whether only Congress members benefit from the free RTC bus travel scheme. He noted that the Congress government provides free electricity for up to 200 units monthly to the poor, while the BRS government has failed to issue ration cards for ten years.
He claimed that the government has deposited ₹16 lakh crore into farmers’ bank accounts and promised that Congress would fully implement six key pledges before the next elections. Furthermore, he asserted that the Congress government inherited a debt of ₹8 lakh crore from the BRS administration, emphasizing their commitment to welfare programs despite the financial burden.
Sridhar Babu warned that if BRS leaders do not change their approach, they could find themselves on the streets for the next decade.
