Tamil Nadu Secures Major Investment Deal During London Visit, Promising 10,000 Jobs

Chennai, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s recent visit to London has resulted in a significant investment for Tamil Nadu. During the trip, memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed between the Tamil Nadu government and several major global corporations to establish manufacturing plants, Global Capability Centers (GCCs), and research and development facilities.

According to a press release from the government, these agreements were finalized on September 14, 2026, in the presence of the Chief Minister and representatives from the state’s investment promotion agency, Guidance Tamil Nadu. The proposed investments exceed ₹15,300 crore, with the potential to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

One of the notable agreements involves Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, a leading multinational company operating in over 45 countries. The firm plans to set up design, engineering, manufacturing, and logistics facilities at various locations in Tamil Nadu, investing approximately ₹11,000 crore and generating around 7,000 jobs.

In addition, Wilson Power Solutions from the UK has signed an MOU to expand its plant in Tiruvallur with an investment of ₹300 crore, which is expected to create 400 new jobs and enhance the state’s renewable energy equipment manufacturing capabilities.

Two more MOUs were signed concerning Global Capability Centers. Sweden’s Sigma Technology Group will expand its centers in Tiruchirappalli and Chennai through its Indian subsidiary, Shrija Solutions, creating 600 high-value jobs. Meanwhile, Ernst & Young plans to establish a new center in the Mount-Poonamallee Road GCC corridor in Chennai with an investment of ₹1,000 crore, which will generate over 2,000 jobs.

Additionally, a prominent European automotive component company has expressed its intention to invest ₹3,000 crore to establish its first plant in Tamil Nadu.

During the visit, representatives from the Hinduja Group met with the Chief Minister. Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, provided updates on a ₹2,500 crore MOU signed during the ‘VETTRI’ Investors Conference in August 2026, expressing interest in increasing investments in the wind power sector.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay emphasized that these investments reflect the aspirations of Tamil Nadu’s youth and highlighted the opportunities that the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) could bring.
