New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : BJP Member of Parliament Ghulam Ali Khatana recently defended the minor charges associated with large transactions made through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Speaking in New Delhi, he dismissed concerns raised by opposition parties, particularly the Congress, claiming that these fees would not adversely affect the poor.
Khatana emphasized that UPI has significantly simplified digital payments. Previously, users incurred higher costs through ATMs and other methods for similar services. He explained that the nominal fees on large transactions are necessary to ensure cybersecurity, transaction monitoring, and the overall cost of service provision. He accused Congress of instilling fear among the public regarding UPI.
Regarding the government’s recent decision on the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Khatana noted that it is expected to benefit around 5.1 million individuals. He highlighted that the amendment to the EPF limit is a crucial step for employees, as the government focuses on creating job opportunities and ensuring social security for retirees.
On the topic of alleged drone attacks near Mecca, Khatana condemned such incidents around the holy site, stating that the Indian government has firmly rejected these claims and condemned the actions.
Addressing reports of a naval confrontation between India and Pakistan, Khatana reiterated that there is a treaty in place, and he considers such incidents to be a serious violation. He mentioned that the Indian government has summoned Pakistan’s top diplomat to lodge a formal protest regarding the matter.
Responding to Omar Abdullah’s comments on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Khatana pointed out that the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is already in effect, applying uniform criminal laws for crimes such as theft, robbery, and murder. He accused leaders like Abdullah and those from the Congress and Samajwadi Party of creating fear within the Muslim community regarding the UCC, asserting that it poses no threat to them.
