Sangrur, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Tarun Chugh, the BJP’s national headquarters in-charge and Member of Parliament, visited the family of the late Gulzar Singh in the village of Tura Banjara, Sangrur, on Wednesday. He expressed his condolences to Gulzar’s mother and other family members, assuring them of his support in their pursuit of justice. Chugh described the circumstances surrounding Gulzar Singh’s death as grave and distressing, emphasizing that the BJP stands firmly with the family during this challenging time.
Chugh highlighted that Gulzar had raised concerns about rampant drug abuse in his village and the impact it was having on local children. He questioned whether raising such issues had become a crime under the Bhagwant Mann government. This incident raises serious questions about the safety of ordinary citizens in Punjab who dare to speak out against drug issues.
The family has made serious allegations regarding the pressure and threats they faced, as well as the treatment Gulzar received following his suicide attempt. They claim he did not receive timely medical assistance and was moved around for hours before help arrived. A thorough and impartial investigation into these allegations is essential.
Chugh announced that he would soon bring this matter to the attention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting an investigation by central agencies to ensure the truth is uncovered without any political or administrative interference. He noted that the family continues to face alleged pressure and threats, urging them to provide written details to present to the Home Minister.
He also criticized local police officials, asserting that they have sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution of India, not the Aam Aadmi Party. Their duty is to deliver justice to citizens, apprehend offenders, and protect the victim’s family.
Chugh called for accountability from the Punjab government and demanded the immediate resignation of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. He insisted that legal cases be filed against individuals named by Gulzar Singh in his statements prior to his death, and that investigations into the circumstances leading to his death, delays in medical assistance, and funeral arrangements be conducted based on police records, medical records, and other available evidence.
He indicated that the case has already been brought to the attention of the National Human Rights Commission and the National Scheduled Castes Commission, welcoming the Punjab and Haryana High Court‘s request for a status report on the police investigation. Chugh emphasized that the inquiry must be fair, transparent, and timely, ensuring the family is free from any pressure or fear. The BJP will pursue justice for this case through every appropriate constitutional and legal avenue.
