Tamil Nadu Exams Postponed Amidst Political Turmoil

Chennai, February 9: The sudden postponement of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group-2 and 2A main examinations has created widespread confusion across the state, sparking a sharp political confrontation.

Opposition leader and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami launched a strong attack on the DMK government, accusing it of “administrative incompetence.”

The exams, scheduled to take place at various centers across Tamil Nadu, were canceled at the last minute due to irregularities in hall tickets and misallocation of examination halls. Thousands of candidates arriving at their centers were informed that the exams had been canceled. In some locations, it was reported that candidates had already begun the examination process when officials halted it.

Palaniswami described the incident as “unprecedented” in TNPSC’s history, stating that postponing such an important competitive exam on the day it was scheduled reflects the current administration’s “administrative failure.”

He remarked, “For the first time, a crucial exam like TNPSC Group-2 has been postponed on the exam day itself. This incident reveals the true state of governance under the DMK.”

Highlighting the difficulties faced by candidates, he noted that millions of young aspirants had invested years of preparation and significant financial resources to sit for the exam. He criticized the government’s explanation of “technical glitches,” arguing that it downplayed the seriousness of the disruption.

Addressing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin directly, Palaniswami questioned the government’s claims of effective governance.

He asked, “Your government cannot even conduct a single competitive exam properly. What more evidence of this administration’s incompetence do you need?”

Palaniswami also accused the DMK of failing to fulfill its promise of creating 550,000 jobs made during the 2021 elections, urging the government to implement systematic security measures instead of taking “token actions” against lower-level officials.

Meanwhile, TNPSC Controller of Examinations A. Shanmuga Sundaram stated that confusion arose due to incorrect allocation of examination halls at several centers in Chennai, including Presidency College and Nandanam Government Arts College.

He expressed regret for the significant error and the inconvenience caused, stating, “To prevent panic among candidates, we have canceled today’s sessions statewide.”

New exam dates are expected to be announced soon.
