
New Delhi, March 10: The police have made a significant breakthrough in the snatching incident that occurred at Shahdara Railway Station. The suspect was arrested late Monday night and is currently undergoing intensive questioning. Authorities report that the accused has a history of similar offenses, and efforts are underway to gather more information related to the case.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the railway police revealed that they received a memo on March 6 at around 5 PM from the Old Delhi Railway Station Police Station (PS ODRS). The memo indicated that a man was run over by a train on platform number 3. Upon receiving the information, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the incident was linked to a snatching, prompting a swift search for the suspect.
Given the seriousness of the case, the police formed multiple teams, including personnel from the ODRS station, the Special Staff Metro Unit, the Special Staff Railway Unit, and joint teams from the RPF Shahdara and CIB RPF. These teams collaborated to advance the investigation using both technical and human intelligence.
During the investigation, police reviewed footage from several CCTV cameras located at and around the crime scene. Additionally, information was gathered through human intelligence in the area. Based on these efforts, the police identified the suspect, Rohit Jha, who was arrested on March 9. The 25-year-old resident of Rajiv Camp, Jhilmil Colony, Vivek Vihar, Delhi, was previously recorded at a different address in Loni.
Further inquiries revealed that Rohit Jha has been involved in three prior cases of a similar nature. According to police, he is addicted to drugs and resorts to snatching to fund his addiction.
The police have also apprehended the individual to whom the suspect sold the stolen mobile phone. Currently, the police are interrogating the suspect and continuing their investigation into the case. They are also working on recovering the mobile phone and exploring other aspects related to the incident.
